| When
I was around 18 I started helping out a local party DJ for the
experience, this moved on to me working for agencies before buying my
own equipment. My first gig on my own was to cover a pub karaoke when
the DJ had left. It was quiet but it gave me a chance to sing as much as
I wanted and it must've been ok as I was offered the residency and that
then moved to doing 4 karaoke's a week.
My
first party was a18th in a small pubs function room, being of similar
age at the time i knew what to play as it was all guests of that age
with the family having there own party in the main bit of the pub.
My first wedding was for an agency and was a last minute booking as the
DJ they were using let them down with a couple hours notice. The agency
supplied all equipment and all I needed was CD's, the night was a
massive success and I loved the atmosphere.....until, the old beat up cd
players the agency supplied died on me on near the end of the last
song of the night ( loch lomond ) .........The crowd stopped and looked
at me and without thinking I grabbed the mic and sang the last part of
the song with no backing shouting to the crowd to join in. They thought
it was deliberate and loved it. The bride had come up crying afterwards
, hugged me and thanked me for a fantastic night and the great way that
I finished the night. She had no idea it was due to the agencies
equipment failing. I took on many repeat bookings from that wedding and
2 things happened.
I
never did any more agency work using their equipment and I put all my
effort into becoming a full time wedding DJ |
